I set a "Lil' Guy" adrift this weekend.  Now they can swim!  Ok, more like float, but I'm glad they have found water.  A new development in their "Idiodyssey" presents a new space to explore.

The aquatic tree formation is called a "Duzzle Pointer."  It's reminiscent of cattails, but much brighter in color.  They give landmarks in the space to help the "Lil' Guys" find their way.

Here's a look at some "Duzzle Pointers" in actual form.  The sculpture is 30.5" tall and made of painted steel.  Now I just need to figure out how to make the floatation device in dimensional terms.

I am happy to announce an upcoming solo exhibition with the Page Coleman Gallery.  She's been a real supporter of my work since moving to Albuquerque.   The show will consist of drawings and steel sculptures from the Idiodyssey of the "lil' guys."  Hope to see you at the opening.

Here's three animations I made while in Chicago.  Getting better with the technique.  Looking for a newerish camera.  I need one with a remote trigger, having to push the button on the camera is causing some of the inconsistent frames.

"Buttshark" and "Mini Tree Urban Tree No. 2" will be shipped off to Chicago late this week.  I arrive late next week, but have a few days off in the Windy city.  Planning on using my Sunday to take photographs of these two playing in the city.  Casting shadows upon the urban environment.  Bringing shade and maybe a smile to a few pedestrians during the day.

I've created three isolated compartments.  Labeled for ease of repacking.  Battery charger included.

Each sculpture has a polyester sock for protection and ease of re-packing at various locations.  Don't forget tape.  

   

All packed up and ready to go.  The great thing with all that foam to keep the objects safe, the box makes a perfect stool to sit on while shooting photographs.  Just one less thing to worry about.

Got the first round of green on the trees. Now there are three!  Buttshark is even getting a fresh coat of paint to meet his new neighbors.  I'm excited to have a landscape growing.  It really encourages a dialogue between the lil' guys and their new space.  

The wood platforms will not be part of the final pieces.  Just a necessary stand for handling during the painting process.The finished height of the tallest one is 23".

Now the lil' guys have a forest to explore.  

Here's a look at some painting in action!  It's more enjoyable than watching paint dry.  No. 3 is in the bag.  I already have No. 4 laid out on the welding table,  ready to join the growing forest.

This is the "Mini Urban Tree No. 1."  It's 23" tall and ready to be sandblasted, primed, and painted.  I'm thinking green, but maybe that's too easy.

I turned the front coat closet into a filming of drawing room.  I really dig the video aspect.  Animation stuff coming soon.

I started this piece a few weeks ago.  The idea of building an "Urban Tree" stems from the tree-like forms I've been drawing in the lil' guys world.  I'm really excited to get the rust finished up, then install it in a location where the cast shadow can play with the landscape.

The scale of the piece really draws you into it's space.  I'm planning on building more.  The creation of shade in the desert is super nice.
